Chonak Rava (Semolina)Fry – Until we visited our friends in Panjim; Goa, (who are hoteliers themselves (they run north Indian food restaurants in Goa) ) hours before catching a flight to Delhi in December 2020, we were ignorantly skipping one dish that was there on the menus of almost all good Goan restaurants.
The hospitality shown by our friends was amazing & they insisted that we have home cooked Punjabi lunch at their place. However we didn’t want to miss any opportunity to relish Goan food.So they strongly recommended that we must try “Chonak fry” at Sheela restaurant on our way to the airport.
Sheela restaurant & bar is in Chicalim, facing the Zuari river.(Picture attached). So if you just stepped out off your flight in Goa or are rushing back to your home, this is the best place to grab a good Goan meal. Its just off the highway & a popular joint with locals & regular customers.
On the table, along with our other Goan favourites arrived the star dish “Chonak Rava fry” (picture attached). And it was indeed a star dish, very flavoursome & delicious & the chef in me was already trying to figure out the marination ingredients while chewing on the delicate flesh. And within a fortnight of being back, it was made at home & guess what it turned out pretty nice .The recipe is easy, swipe left for the same 😊.
